The Optimist Club of Greater Vienna maintains W&OD Caboose #503 at the Town's CentennialPark on Church Street NE.  The caboose was donated by the Norfolk Southern Company and dedicated by the Town on September 15, 1990 as part of the Town's 100th anniversary.  Railroad history was made in Vienna on June 17, 1861, where for the first time soldiers were brought into battle by train at the start of the Civil War.  The caboose is maintained by the Optimist Club of Greater Vienna for the benefit and education of children in our area to pass on the history of the railroad and its importance to the history of Vienna.  For further interesting details click here for an Adobe PDF file.  For further information contact our club at info@optimistclubofgreatervienna.org
