The Optimist Club of Greater Vienna in partnership with the Camelot Center in Annandale, VA hosts an annual Communications Contest for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (CCDHH). The winner of the club contest is presented a plaque and has the opportunity to participate at the District level where two $1,500 scholarships are awarded.  For more Camelot Center details see their Fairfax County Public Schools web page here.

The Vienna Optimists hosted their annual CCDHH on Wednesday, January 20. Eleven contestants between the ages of 10 and 12 from the Camelot Center participated in the contest, speaking on the topic “Cyber Communication – Progress or Problem?” Over one hundred people attended this event including parents, teachers, and club members. All speakers received an award for their presentations. The Optimist Club also presented a monetary contribution to the Camelot Center, a special education school in Fairfax County. Of particular note is that all students at the Center participated by preparing a speech on the topic making this a school project and learning experience.
